Athena has raced in AMSS races and the Newport to Ensenada Race over the years. She finished second in her class in the 2009 Newport to Ensenada Race. In more recent times, she has been used principally for cruising on San Diego Bay and in near coastal waters.

Historic Highlights/Interesting Information: One of the few remaining authentic Cape Cod Catboats is the Betty Lou. This type of boat was designed to sail the shallow bays of the East Coast of the United States in comfort and safety. The expanse of San Diego Bay is an ideal cruising ground for this type of craft because of its stability and roominess for its size. The gaff headed cat rig makes short handed sailing simple and easy.
She has been undergoing a complete restoration from the keel up at the Koehler Kraft Boat Yard.

CF continues the tradition his father started in 1938 as owner and master shipwright at Koehler Kraft Company, Inc.

Historic Highlights/Interesting Information: Dauntless is design #458 in the John Alden Design Book. She was launched at the Dauntless Shipyard in Essex, Connecticut on the 16th of June, 1930. In that same year she participated in the Newport to Bermuda Race alongside the schooners; Rose of Sharon, Curlew and Teragram - all of which she still sails against, with the exception of Teragram.

Historic Highlights/Interesting Information: This yacht was built for Cornelius Crane of the Crane Plumbing fortune, exclusively to cruise the South Pacific and circumnavigate the globe. Mr. Crane sailed the boat extensively for the final 10 years of his life in the South Pacific. Finesse has a range of 2000nm under power and has virtually unlimited range under sail. Her design is highly acclaimed and was built to Lloyd’s A1 Yacht Standards.

Historic Highlights/Interesting Information: Happy Return is the smallest of three Block Island Double Enders built but a Hollywood type in the 1940’s to satisfy his infatuation with the design. Happy Return’s biggest sister Scrimshaw still sails the same waters on San Diego Bay.
“Block Island double were an iconic work boat for Block Island carrying everything from agriculture to mail from the mainland to the island. They were designed specifically to be sailed ashore and grounded for loading and unloading. Much in the same way that pongas are used in modern day third world work boat fleets.
After 72 years she still charms the local San Diego boaters that she sails by with her mid 1600’s rig. Many of the onlookers cry out “What kind of boat is that, it’s so cool.” Her owner Amanda hails back “She’s from the 17th century, Happy Return.”

Historic Highlights/Interesting Information: This is a salty, nostalgic one-of-a-kind launched in 1956 in Vancouver, B.C., by Heinz Braun and named for his wife, Herta. They sailed it to San Diego in 1959 and lived aboard at Southwestern Yacht Club for over two decades.
According to a manual written by the builder, the design is based on a West Coast fishing trawler and built using an existing hull as a template. This double-ender has been around the tip of Mexico twice, according to the builder's granddaughter. It has circumnavigated Catalina many times.

Historic Highlights/Interesting Information: Maid of Kent is a founding flag vessel of the Ancient Mariners Sailing Society in 1975, and we have owned her for 40 years. She has cruised from mainland Mexico to the Channel Islands. Maid of Kent was extensively rebuilt by Koehler Kraft Co. in 2017.
Type of Construction: Maid of Kent was originally Philipine mahogany carvel planked over apetong frames. The planking is now an epoxy-sapele composite planked over apetong frames. All iron fasteners have been replaced with bronze and T316 stainless steel.
